Important changes to Bow School admissions 2014
Please note that Bow School will change from a
boys school to a co-educational (boys and girls) school from
September 2014. During the first five years of its transition a
special exemption will apply to school admissions at Year 7 as
- in the event of the school being
oversubscribed the 270 paces will be divided equally, between boys
and girls. This means that no more than 135 boys and 135 girls will
be offered places, in accordance to the oversubscription criteria
for community schools
- this exemption could mean that some children
will be refused a place, because there are more applications than
the 135 places available for their gender. However, after March 3,
2014 (offer day) any places that become available will be
filled regardless of gender.
- this arrangement only applies to applications
for Year 7 entry in September. It will continue for each Year 7
entry up to and until September 2018. Thereafter Bow School’s
admissions will operate without special regard to maintaining
an equal balance of gender.
If you have not been offered a place at a school of your
preference you can appeal that
decision. The appeal panel is independent of the
council and schools in the borough.
If you wish to appeal you can download an admission
appeals form (PDF 187kb) or call pupil
admissions. Please include any evidence or supporting material with
your appeal form and you must give the grounds for
your appeal at the time the appeal is lodged. You may appeal for
more than one school.
Please check the appeal
