Year 2 Action Plan
The Strategic Plan – Year 2 Action Plan sets
out key activities to be delivered in 2010/11. As in previous
years, the Plan shows our current performance and outlines the
improvements planned for the coming year.
Each year, services across the Council – in
consultation with key stakeholders – help to draw up a new action
plan with activities that they will carry out to improve the
Council’s performance and deliver the goals of the Strategic Plan.
Following the election in May 2010, the Year 2 Action Plan was
reviewed and refreshed.
The Strategic Plan represents the council’s
contribution to delivering the borough-wide Community Plan, agreed
by the Tower Hamlets Partnership. Both plans set out how we will
continue to work together to improve the quality of life for people
living and working in the borough.
The Community Plan themes are the
following:
- A Great Place to Live
- A Prosperous Community
- A Safe and Supportive Community
- A Healthy Community
Underpinning these four key themes is the commitment to One
Tower Hamlets.
The strategic plan builds on our achievements in 2009/10
2009/10 was a year of considerable progress.
Tower Hamlets has top rated ‘excellent’ children’s services and the
Council was recognised by the local government watchdog, the Audit
Commission, as ‘performing well in delivering its
priorities’.
At the centre of our work, and underpinning
each of the themes in our Community Plan, is the commitment to
build One Tower Hamlets, a borough where everyone can access the
same opportunities. To this end we have taken steps to ensure that
we meet the highest level of the Equality Framework for Local
government – a commitment that was recognised when the council was
recently assessed as ‘excellent’.
While these achievements are a testimony to
the hard work of council staff, there is still much to do. The
Strategic Plan will keep us on track in our drive to generate
further improvement in our services and help local people to
experience an improved quality of life.
