Community and day centres
Tower Hamlets Council has several day centres within the
borough, Poplar Day centre for older people, Russia Lane for people
with dementia and Mayfield House for people from the Somali
community. Sonali Gardens is for the older Bangladeshi community,
Sundial day centre is for older people, and St Hilda’s weekend
Bangladeshi day centre. They assist in supporting people to live
their lives at home and within the community.
Referrals to this centre can be made following an assessment
where a need was identified at a certain level for social, cultural
and community support as well as practical assistance with personal
care and also to provide respite for informal carers. Also some
centres can provide assistance with translation and with legal,
housing and benefits advice.
All directly provided day services operate from 9am to 5pm on
weekdays with two sessions each day. In order to access these
centres you will need an assessment which can be arranged through
the Social Care team.

Day Opportunities
Day Opportunities is a 15 place centre. Service users come from
a wide range of communities and present with a varied number of
long term conditions. The support service users receive is enhanced
by the provision of centre based OT services.

Pritchard’s Road Day Centre is multi-cultural day centre based
in Bethnal Green for adults experiencing mental health issues.

Russia Lane
Russia Lane provides 25 places daily to users who have moderate
to severe dementia.
The support service users receive is enhanced by the provision of
both nursing and OT support from the Mental Health Foundation
