Information on funeral costs
A funeral can be either by burial or by cremation, and can be
organised with or without the help of a professional funeral
director. The date of the funeral cannot be finalised until
after the death has been registered. If the death has to be
reported to the coroner, the date when the funeral can be held will
be affected. See Registering a Death for
more detail.
The cost of burial or cremation will vary according to the
cemetery or crematorium used and the type of service
required. Find out more on
how to pay for a funeral and what to do if you're on a low
income.
Please note that there are no operational burial or cremation
facilities within the borough of Tower
Hamlets.
Tower Hamlets burial subsidy
The council operates a burial subsidy
scheme which will contribute towards the expenses of the
borough’s residents who require burial facilities outside the
borough.
