Sustainability

When the park was designed sustainability principles such as
reducing waste and consumption of resources during the construction
process were considered.
Simple things like preserving park features and re-using them
where they did not impact upon having a coherent design for users;
reducing the amount of material that had to moved and using it on
site; thinking about how the energy and water needs of the park
could be provided from sustainable sources; thinking about how the
design of buildings could reduce heat loss and make maximum use of
solar gain.
Adhering to these principles meant that the park now benefits
from a number of features, which contribute to its sustainability
by reducing the total amount of resources consumed by the park and
reducing running costs as a result.
There is a continued commitment to sustainability in the park –
particularly in relation to energy and water use in the design and
creation of new facilities in the park.
The Energy Savings Trust recently awarded a grant for the
construction of a Solar Power
Station. This will be created as a canopy over the Electric
Karts track to enable the facility to reduce its consumption from
non renewable sources and sell some energy back to the national
grid.
Key issues which are to be addressed in the future are recycling
and waste disposal in the park.
