Park Capital Improvement Programme
This year the council is spending almost £2 million on park
improvements.
Coupled with more than £5 million that has
been spent on parks since 2006, this represents one of the largest
investments that the borough’s open spaces have ever
seen.
Improvements are set to include:
- new play equipment
- greater diversity of plants to encourage wildlife
- new and resurfaced paths.
There will also be a focus on making visitors
feel safer, so plans look at improving entrances, better
lighting and the pruning of some trees and shrubs to increase
visibility.
The Capital Investment Programme is funded by
Tower Hamlets Council, with some money received through
Section 106 Planning Agreements with local developers.
Parks to benefit from this funding include
Allen Gardens, Stepney Green Gardens, Wapping Gardens, Tredegar
Square, Centrell Road Open Space, Poplar Park, St John’s Park,
Millwall Park, Meath Gardens and Bethnal Green Gardens.
In addition funding is going toward the
implementation of the Victoria Park master
plan.
