Who can apply?
Licensed market traders in the borough.
Eligibility criteria
- Licensed market trader in the borough.
- Vehicle registered with market services
If you are unable to meet the above criteria you will not
qualify for a permit. However, if you would like us to consider
your circumstances you must write to Parking Permits, P.O. Box
62475, London E14 1GL or email us at permits@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
We will respond to your letter within 5 working days.
Permit fraud

Change in details
If you change your vehicle you will have to
register your new vehicle with Market Services and return your
permit for the remaining time to be transferred onto the new
vehicle. There will be a £5 administration fee.
How and where to use a permit
Parking in your zone
Providing your parking permit is correctly displayed, you can
park all day in parking bays signed:
- Business permit holders only
- Business permit holders or pay at machine
- Permit holders only
- Permit holders or pay at machine
- Sunday market trader permits only
Where a permit is not valid
Your parking permit is not valid for parking in bays signed
differently to those above or off-street on estates. You should
also make sure you do not park in suspended bays regardless of
whether or not the reason for the suspension is apparent.
Parking controls
Parking controls are mostly in place from 8.30am to 5.30pm
Monday to Friday, but in some mini-zones these hours are extended
to the weekend. Find out more about controlled parking zones.
If you park without a valid parking permit during controlled
hours, or in a suspended bay, you may be issued with a Penalty
Charge and your vehicle may be removed.
How much does a market trader permit cost?
The price for a market trader permit is as follows:
- 12 months, £450
- 6 months, £270
- 3 months, £160
How and where can I apply?
All new applications must be made in person. If you wish to pay
by debit or credit card you can visit your local One Stop Shop. All methods of payment
(except American Express or Diners Club cards) are
accepted at the cashiers office at Albert Jacob House, which is
open Monday to Friday from 9am – 4.30pm.
