Pink bag and purple bin recycling

40% of the waste we produce can be easily recycled through the pink bags and purple recycling bins.

You can recycle all of the following materials using your pink bags and purple bins.

  • Mixed glass bottles and jars
  • Food and drink cans
  • Plastic bottles (no other types of plastic please, only bottles)
  • Mixed card
  • Mixed paper
  • Cartons
  • Aerosols
  • Telephone directories

The materials can all be mixed together as they are sorted out after collection at a materials recovery facility (read more about this in frequently asked questions).

What to recycle

Your collection service

We collect recycling weekly.  To find your collection day and the kind of service your property is provided with please open the document below, type in the name of your road or block of flats into the ‘Find’ box and press return.

  • Check recycling collection days (pdf, 396Kb)

If recycling is collected from your doorstep please make sure it is out by 7am and is clearly visible to the collection crews.
If you aren’t sure about what service you have access to or would like to request recycling facilities for your block of flats please call us on 020 7364 5004 or email generalenquiries@towerhamlets.gov.uk

Recycling sacks

Recycling sacks are delivered to residents doors every few months.  If you run out of pink sacks you can order some more:

  • Order online with the request new recycling containers form
  • Email generalenquiries@towerhamlets.gov.uk

Never put recycling in black sacks.  The recycling collection crews will not collect any black sacks due to problems with sacks of rubbish being accidentally collected in the past.
