Community led cycling projects
A number of cycling projects in Tower Hamlets are led by local
community groups and other organisations. The details of some of
these projects are shown below:
Cycle FIT, The Jagonari Centre
The Jagonari Centre operates a cycling initiative for mainly
Muslim women of Bangladeshi background. The project provides
regular cycling sessions for women for whom access is only possible
because of the female-only environment and supports them until they
have increased confidence to cycle publicly. For more details
on the latest cycling projects available through this
scheme contact The Jagonari Centre on 020 7375 0520 or visit
them at 183-185 Whitechapel Road, E1 1DW.
The Tower Hamlets Cycling Club
This British Cycling Go-Ride Club aims to
provide cycling sessions for adults and children of all ages and
abilities and has been set up for the benefit of the local
community. The Club aims to break down barriers which discourage
certain groups from enjoying cycling, such as women from ethnic
minorities and people with disabilities. Club bikes are available
for all those who don’t have their own, and the rides aim to help
you explore the wealth of cycle routes available locally.
Current cycling sessions
include: Beginners, Women Only, Disability Rides, Seniors
Rides, Youth Racing, Confidence on the Road, Cycle to Work, BMX
Kids
Bike Maintenance Workshops
also run weekly, where you can bring along your own bike or work on
Club bikes, to learn new skills and save money on bike repairs.
Tower Hamlets Cycling Club are also
involved in Tower Hamlets BMX Club, an
exciting new development which
trains young adults in BMX skills, and the Club
trains a Racing Team each year for the London Youth Games.
Tower Hamlets Cycling Club is based at Mile
End Stadium, Rhodeswell Road, London, E14 7TW.
