Free cycle training for adults and families
Anyone who works, studies or lives in Tower Hamlets can take
advantage of the free adult cycle training scheme. Family
cycle training sessions are also available.
The adult scheme offers one to one (although if preferred
trainees can book in pairs) sessions with a qualified cycle
instructor. For those who would prefer a female cycling instructor
this can be arranged upon request. Anyone living, working or
studying in Tower Hamlets is eligible to up to 4 hours of training
for free.
Cycle training sessions can be booked for either one or two
hours in length and are available at a time and day of the week
that suits you (within normal Monday - Saturday working hours).
Training is available for complete beginners through to
experienced cyclists. Those either new or returning to cycling may
wish to start their training in traffic-free paths in local parks
near to where they live. If you do not have your own bike one can
be hired for your lesson.
You can now also take your cycle training sessions (at any
level, from beginners to advanced cyclists) on
Barclays Cycle Hire bikes available from docking
stations in the Borough. Note that participants are required to pay
the usage and access fees of the Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme if you
use those bikes for your training – see www.tfl.gov.uk/barclayscyclehire for
information on fees and membership options.
We are now also able to offer cycle buddying
training once you are at a competent level to cycle on the
road. This scheme pays for a professional instructor to ‘buddy’ you
on a useful journey (e.g. home to work), helping you to understand
and cycle the safest and most convenient route. Each participant is
entitled to two such hourly sessions.
For further information on these schemes or to book any
kind of cycle training/cycle buddying session email cycling@towerhamlets.gov.uk
or call 020 7364 6940.
Remember, if you work, live or study in Tower Hamlets the cycle
training programme and cycle buddying training is free for you to
use!
