Parental engagement team
The Parental Engagement Team offers targeted and universal
programmes for parents, carers and families.
We aim to:
- Support schools and children’s centres in actively engaging
parents in children and young peoples education and development by:
- ensuring parents / carers have a voice
- developing a welcoming provision
- communicating effectively with parents / carers
- working with parents / carers to support their children’s
learning and development
- supporting parents’ own learning and development
- Support the delivery of universal and targeted parenting
programmes delivered in schools and children’s centres
- Provide good quality support in the form of information, advice
and signposting to other services, particularly at key transition
points in a child or young persons life.
The following programmes are delivered in primary, secondary and
special schools and children’s centres across the borough.
Programmes include:
- Parent Voice - supporting consultation on school life, policy
and extended service provision.
- Curriculum focused workshops – exploring the curriculum and
supporting parents to play and active role within their child’s
learning.
- Out of school hours family learning programmes – encouraging
parents and children to learn new skills together, mosaic, film
making, pottery etc
- Targeted workshops with parents of children in Year 7 -
introducing secondary school organisation, routine and strategies
for supporting children’s learning.
- Healthy Families programmes – promoting healthy weight and
healthy lives amongst parents of children birth - 8.
- Parent Information Point (PIP) – supporting parents of children
at key points of transition.
- Passport to Learning programmes – supporting parents towards
employment through confidence building programmes, accredited and
non - accredited courses and volunteering.
- Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities parenting
programmes – building resilience within families, strengthening
parent / child relationships, supporting discipline techniques and
exploring rites of passage and community support.
- Mellow Parenting programmes - exploring child development,
play, discipline and support mechanisms for pre and post natal
parents up to five years.
- Social Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) Family Programme –
engaging parents through interactive workshops which explore their
child’s social and emotional development.
