Parents advice centre
The Parents Advice Centre offers advice, information and support
on:
It provides the Parent Partnership Service for Tower
Hamlets.
- There is a telephone help line between 9.00am and 5.00pm
(Monday to Friday) all year round.
- There is a Drop-In Advice Service (including the availability
of a Bengali speaking advisor) between 9.30 –3.30 on Tuesdays
during term time.
- An appointment system Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
between 9.00 and 5.00 (other times by special arrangement).
The PAC is a self-referring service offering case work support.
The team of experienced advisers work with parents in preparing for
meetings at schools, helping with the statementing process,
translating, understanding and responding to letters and mediation
in schools.
Various SEN parent support groups meet, at the PAC including a
SEN Parent Support Group meeting weekly on Thursday 10.00 –12.00 ,
a group for parents of children with epilepsy meeting termly,
monthly Bengali Parents Support Group and Tower Hamlets Forum for
Children with Disabilities.
PAC works closely with a range of other service providers, these
include: Bengali Parent Advisers, Claim the Max Welfare Benefits
Advice, Toyhouse Library Special Needs Soft Play and Tower Hamlets
Deaf Children Society.
Advice can be offered in English, Bengali, Sylheti, Somali
French, Swahili and Hindi
The Parents Advice Centre offers a range of information leaflets
in English, Bengali and Somali (We also have books, videos and
audiocassettes about SEN, which can be borrowed)
Choice Admissions
The PAC also hosts Tower Hamlets Choice Admissions Service which
provides impartial advice and information service to parents of
children applying for a secondary school place for their child. The
Choice Admissions Service can help parents in understanding
admissions procedures, assist them in completing application forms
and provide advice on appeals. Advice can be offered in Bengali and
English.
