How to pay council tax

You can pay your council tax by any of the following methods. You will need you council tax reference number which you will find on your bill.

Pay online or over the phone

Go to the Tower Hamlets Web Payments page for 24 hour secure Internet payments service.

You may make a variety of payments using this secure site with most major credit or debit cards (not Diners Card, American Express or Solo).

You can also call our 24 hour automated service on 020 7364 3800. You can pay by debit card (Switch or Delta only) or credit card. Credit card payments will incur the issuers transaction fee (the appropriate percentage charge will be notified before the payment is taken).

By Direct Debit

• Complete the mandate enclosed with your bill
• Contact the revenue services team and we will be pleased to set up a direct debit instruction over the phone or send you a form
• Download a direct debit mandate (pdf 47kb)

The direct debit payment will show as 'LBTH Council Tax' on your bank statement

Paying from outside the UK

If you are paying in a currency other than sterling you must cover any shortfall resulting from the exchange rate or costs associated with converting the payment into the other currency.

By cheque made payable to: "London Borough of Tower Hamlets" and addressed to PO Box No. 429, 62 Roman Road, London E2 0XA

Please write your account number with your name and address on the back of the cheque. Do not send cash.

We do not send receipts for postal payments unless you ask for one and provide a stamped addressed envelope.
