A leisure facilities strategy
Our vision is to improve the quality of life for everyone
living and working in Tower Hamlets. High quality, accessible
leisure facilities enable people to lead healthier lives and meet
and engage with others. Recognising the benefits of leisure
facilities, we have invested significantly in our centres
over recent years.
Tower Hamlets is at the heart of London’s aspirations for the
future. It has experienced rapid population growth over the past
ten years and this growth is forecast to continue over the next two
decades. We recognise that there is a need for additional social
and community infrastructure – including publicly accessible
leisure facilities – to meet the current and future needs of
residents.
In order to plan for tomorrow's leisure facilities effectively and
to ensure that future generations can benefit from access to
leisure facilities, we adopted a leisure facilities strategy in
October 2009. This strategy sets out our main objectives for
leisure facilities over the next ten years. The strategy is not an
investment programme but a framework which will help us make
decisions in the future.
