Mile End Park Leisure
Centre and Stadium
An award-winning £15m leisure complex which
opened in its current form in 2005/6, Mile
End Park Leisure Centre and Stadium is Tower Hamlets’ flagship
leisure venue and boasts state-of-the-art training facilities. Set
in the beautifully landscaped Mile End Park, close to the iconic
Green Bridge, the complex is at the heart of the local
community.
It is also excellently-equipped for elite
athletes, and is already used as a training facility by a number of
potential Olympic competitors. The leisure centre and stadium are
both fully-accessible for people with disabilities, and have
Inclusive Fitness Initiative Accreditation.
Mile End’s stadium has been the venue for
numerous athletics events since it was first built in the 1945.
Today, after extensive improvements and renovation that were
completed in 2005, it provides first-class athletics facilities
including a 400m, eight-lane athletics track, field facilities, as
well as grass synthetic pitches and courts catering for other
sports. (Additional facilities that are not permanently available
can be supplied on request.) The stadium is home to a number of
athletics clubs (including disability sports teams) and hosts major
competitions every year.
Mile End Park Leisure Centre, which is
immediately adjacent to the stadium, opened in 2006. Its facilities
include a four- court sports hall, two swimming pools (including
one competition standard pool), state-of-the-art fitness studios,
and a health suite and sauna.
Tower Hamlets Council can provide transport
for athletes, coaches and support staff from its extensive fleet of
vehicles. Most of the council’s vehicles are wheelchair accessible,
with lifts and wheelchair spaces fitted with rear impact protection
seats.
Mile End Park Leisure Centre and Stadium are
managed on behalf of the Tower Hamlets Council by Greenwich Leisure
Ltd (GLL). GLL operate over 65 leisure centres and sporting venues
across London, and have extensive experience of providing
competition and training facilities for athletes at all levels.
