4 star council
Tower Hamlets has been named as a 4 star
council by the Audit Commission and is now one of the ten most
improving councils in the country. The 4 star rating follows a
corporate performance assessment (CPA) and joint area review (JAR)
of children's services.
The inspectors were full of praise for staff, and commented on
the outstanding level of ambition, energy and dedication they
encountered throughout the council.
Beacon award
In 2008, Tower Hamlets Council was awarded beacon status for reducing re-offending, the
only authority in London to achieve the status following an
intensive assessment process. The council has been recognised as a
beacon of excellence for the fifth year running with central
government awarding the council beacon status for school
improvement. The council has also been awarded beacon status for
community cohesion, getting closer to communities, supporting the
social care workforce, promoting racial equality and early
intervention for children at risk.
Investors in People & Equality Standard

gained recognition from Stonewall as a diversity champion. We are
committed to recruiting a workforce to reflect our community.
