Positive about disability
If you consider yourself a disabled person and would like us to
take this into account, please indicate this on the application
form. The council is a disability symbol user and positively
welcomes applications from disabled people.
The symbol is awarded by the Jobcentre Plus to recognise
employers who have agreed to meet five commitments regarding the
recruitment, employment, and retention and career development of
disabled people.
Examples of a disability may include:
- mobility difficulties
- a sensory impairment such as sight or hearing loss
- a progressive condition such as arthritis or MS
- a mental health difficulty such as long-term depression
- a learning difficulty like dyslexia
Epilepsy, diabetes and asthma are also defined as disabilities
under the terms of the Disability Discrimination Act. We will offer
every disabled job applicant an interview provided they meet the
essential criteria for the post.
When applying for a job, you can request key information in
Braille, large print, on tape or a BSL Interpreter to support you
at interview.
Please let us know if you need additional assistance from us in
order to complete the application form or prior to attending the
selection process (for example, large print, sign language
interpreter, wheelchair access). If you are successful in being
short-listed for interview you will be asked in writing whether
there is any specific assistance you require.
