Planning consultation - have your say
Consultation with local residents and business is at the heart
of the planning process. Not only can you comment on major planning
documents like the Local Development
Framework (LDF), you also have the right to comment on
individual planning applications. Full details of how you can get
involved in planning decisions that affect your street, estate or
the wider area are explained in the council’s Statement of Community Involvement.
Planning Consultation Portal
We have recently launched our brand new
Planning Consultation Portal. The new Portal will enable us to keep
you up to date with events and consultations that you can get
involved with. You will be able to comment directly on consultation
documents as well as take part in online surveys and forums.
To sign up and get involved please go to our
Planning
Consultation Portalwebpage.

is proposing updates to the SCI to ensure our community involvement

budget constraints. The consultation runs for a period of 6 weeks

The revised document and further information
can be found on the Statement of Community

Consultation
We have produced a short, animated film to
make it easier than ever for residents to understand how they can
have their say on local planning issues and get involved in
consultation activities.
The film is available in English and
Bengali,
or with subtitles.
It can also be viewed by visiting www.youtube.com/towerhamletscouncil
Local Development Framework
A Local Development Framework (LDF) is a folder of
documents that outlines how planning will be managed in your area.
From time to time, as new documents are developed, we will run
LDF consultation exercises with local
residents, developers, community groups and other stakeholders.
Your comments will help shape the LDF and various other
planning documents. New plans are currently being prepared which
will be incorporate into the Local Development Framework. More
information can be found on the
Local Development Framework pages.
Masterplans
A masterplan outlines the vision for the development of an area,
indicating the broad principles which should be followed. A
masterplan is written to encourage development as well as give
clear guidance to potential developers. It will also outline the
policy framework that schemes should adhere to. We will consult
with the public and other stakeholders when developing an area
masterplan. Further information and all masterplans produced by the
council can be found on the
Masterplan page.
Individual planning applications
The council welcomes any comments on planning applications,
whether in support of an application or an objection to it. To find
out more about commenting on planning applications, read our advice
note
How can I comment on a planning application? (pdf 48k) or
search for current
individual planning applications.
Developer-led consultation
For those wishing to develop land or property
within the borough, the council offers a service which provides
advice before a planning application is submitted – this is known
as
pre-application advice. At any one time there will be a number
of developer led pre-application consultations being undertaken.
For significant proposals, the council will suggest to developers
that a Community Forum is held. This will be an opportunity to
discuss the proposals with the local community and explain how
comments made during the consultation period have been fed into the
design.
Minutes from Community Forums are available to download
