Equality Impact Assessments (EqIA) in 2008 / 2009
Equality Impact Assessments are a key legal requirement of the
'General Duty' under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. The
council is committed to meeting its legal obligations and
delivering fair and accessible services to all. Impact assessments
allow us to underpin this commitment and evaluate our services and
the way we deliver them. In order to fully address the equalities
agenda, the council has led the way in developing good practice by
wherever possible addressing all six equality strands when carrying
out Impact Assessments.
In 2006, the council was externally assessed and verified for
achieving level 5 of the national Equality Standard for Local
Government. In recognition of this, we were awarded the Equality
Mark by the Improvement and Development Agency.
