Help shape the future of parks and open spaces
Residents can have their say on shaping future investment into
parks and open spaces in Tower Hamlets.
A consultation into the updated Open Space
Strategy (OSS) starts this week. Feedback from the consultation
will be used to help identify improvements the council makes to
existing open spaces, and provide direction for how new open spaces
should be developed.
Each year, the council carries out
improvements to open spaces, including refurbishment to play areas,
park furniture, planting and signage.
The strategy aims to ensure parks and open
spaces reflect the needs of the community and improve the quality
of life for everyone living and working in Tower Hamlets by
providing well maintained facilities.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman said:
"Parks and open spaces are an important part our
community providing essential recreation, play and leisure
facilities.
“I am committed to ensuring all
of our parks and open spaces are maintained to the
highest standards, which is why I am delighted about the
multi-million pound improvements to Victoria Park and Altab
Alli Park. I'd like to encourage all our residents to let us
know where else we should be investing our resources and how
else we can improve our open spaces."
The strategy was adopted in 2006 and the
updated version will last until 2016. The consultation will also
include an independent technical assessment of all parks and open
spaces.
The council is proposing to focus on areas the
assessment identifies as having the greatest need and consultation
feedback will provide direction on what sorts of improvements
should be made to these priority areas.
Residents will also be able to suggest new
open spaces they would like developed.
Residents will have the opportunity to express
their views during a six week consultation period by taking part
in the online
survey or request a hard copy by calling 020 7364 2302. There
