Thank you to all 107 residents who took part in You Decide! at
Mulberry School on Thursday 19
March.
During the event participants heard about 33
extra council services and projects available to buy to improve
their neighbourhood and other residents’ lives.

Here’s how you decided
With the £280,000 of council cash - £140,000
for each ward Shadwell, St Katharine’s and Wapping.
Participants voted on the best way to spend the money to benefit
their local community.
Here are the extra council services and
projects participants wanted in the order they were voted for:

Youth Inclusion
Programme:
This programme will help to prevent 13-17 year
olds at risk of entering the criminal justice system, by working
with 75 teenagers.

Zero Tolerance Drug and Crime
Operations:
This will fund targeted drug, crime and
anti-social behaviour operations in known crime hotspots in the
area. The funding will allow the Safer Neighbourhood Teams to
maintain daily uniform visibility and work on proactive
operations.

Youth Inclusion and Support
Panel:
The panel will work with 30 children aged 8-13
who have become know to the police or council’s Youth Offending
Team and may have anti-social behaviour warnings or acceptable
behaviour contracts.

Early GCSE in Mother
Tongue:
For children from the age of 11 to learn
languages such as: Bengali, Arabic Turkish, Chinese and Urdu and
take their GCSE exam early.

Extended Learning (Out of School
Hours):
This will provide out of school study support
to cover a wide range of learning activities outside normal lesson
time. Young people can participate in this voluntarily.

Women’s Lifeguard Training
Programme:
This programme will encourage women to train
as life guards, helping to increase access to swimming for women,
and it is likely to create jobs for women who complete the
training.

Family Learning (10 week
course):
Free family learning course will be organised
by the council’s Lifelong Learning Team to provide parents,
grandparents and carers with the skills they need to encourage
their child to learn at home.

Drug Outreach Worker:
The worker will be based in the community
offering advice, support and routes into drug rehabilitation
treatments.

Youth Disabilities Employment
Project:
Tower Hamlets Council will ensure two young
people with disabilities will be employed with council contractors
or within the Idea Store / Library Service. They will be supported
by a dedicated team.

Shrub Beds:
To provide 45 metres of new and refurbished
shrub beds in parks and open spaces and various bulbs,
roses, ground cover and climbing plants
