The Inner London Football League (ILFL) is an adult league based
in Tower Hamlets and delivered by local residents. It is a health
education initiative, set up in 2001 by a group of local football
teams, which promotes an active lifestyle, healthy eating and
living. The ILFL primarily targets the youth age group, from 16-21
years, but is open to all and encourages participation from
neighbouring boroughs. There is a huge interest in the league and
the growth to 29 member teams is a testimony to that fact.

This pre-season tournament was introduced to
the Councils sporting calendar in 2009 and has been a huge success.
Aimed in part at raising the profile of Olympic sports before the
London 2012 Games, it also addresses the issues around increasing
participation, developing community cohesion, keeping young people
in the game who are at risk of dropping out. The Tournament is
organised and delivered by the Tower Hamlets Sports Development
Team and is by invitation only. It is geared at local clubs who can
field a team of youngsters between 17-20 years old, ages where many
young players find it difficult to make the transition from youth
to adult football. Heats stages takes place at Victoria Park and
the Final is played at Mile End Stadium.
Tower Hamlets Safer Neighbourhood Football Tournament
This tournament normally takes place over 3 days in Spring. The

community groups, Met Police and the council to tackle social
issues, in particular crime reduction that affect all of us.
The heats in both Youth and Adult categories involving up to 32
different teams including the London Fire Service and Met Police
are played over two days at Victoria Park, culminating in a finals
which are played at Mile End Stadium, with the winning teams
