Tower Hamlets Sports Council seeking new members
The Tower Hamlets Sports Council is
seeking to increase it's membership.
Tower Hamlets Sports Council promotes
participation and achievement in sport within the borough by
representing the interests of local sports clubs and
individuals.
Many of the borough's sports groups
are unaware of this independent body, who have been supporting
clubs and individuals with grants. The annual subscription is £10
and a club or individual within the club can apply for funding
after a six-month period. They will consider funding for items
like equipment, kit and coaching courses.
Please take advantage of this
opportunity and increase your club's capacity to get funding.

The FA Statement on mixed
football
The FA is pleased that the resolution to amend its Rules to
extend mixed football in the U13 age group received
approval from The FA Shareholders at the AGM today (25
May).
The resolution was fully supported by The FA Board, FA Executive
and FA Council and the result means that girls and boys will be
able to play in the same teams at U12 and U13 level from next
season (2011-12).
Tower Hamlets Winter Youth League
The Tower Hamlets Youth league was formed in October 2010 to
provide a structured football league for young people from 8 -18
years old from Tower Hamlets and neighbouring boroughs.
Previously, local organisations provided league football but
there was a lack of provision for younger age groups. Two
local organisations; The Bangladesh Football Association (BFA) and
the Sports Network Council (SNC) came together with support from
London FA and Tower Hamlets Council to create a new unified
league.
The main aims of the league are to:
- Provide an organised football league for youth teams in Tower
Hamlets and neighbouring boroughs.
- Increase football participation in the borough, particularly
for those between 8-18 years old.
- Support the creation and development of youth teams in the
borough.
- Promote exercise and healthy lifestyles to all young
people.
- Increase community cohesion through football.
- Increase life skills and volunteering in the community.
In the 2010/2011 season, the league attracted 24 teams in U18,
U16, U14, U12 and U10 age groups. The league involved teams mainly
from Tower Hamlets but we are hoping to attract teams from other
local boroughs, too in future seasons.
The beauty of the league is that we take care of pitch bookings
and referees. All teams have to do is come and play at their
allocated times. The matches are usually played at the same
venue every week and so teams, players and parents know where to go
every week. The league officials are there throughout the day
to deal with any issues.
