Of the 2,896 Year 11 leavers in 2007 (Activity Survey 2007 –
Year 11 Leavers in Tower Hamlets), just under 87 per cent went
on to further learning in the form of:
- full time education (80.5 per cent)
- work-based training (4.6 per cent)
- employment with training (1.8 per cent)
This represents a rise of more than 7 per cent over the previous
two years.
Of those going on to full time education (2331), 61 per cent did
so within Tower Hamlets. Proportionally more girls than boys stayed
on in full time education, respectively 84.2 per cent and 77.3 per
cent.
Students of Bangladeshi origin comprised 52 per cent of the
Year 11 cohort and 56 per cent of those going into full time
education.
NEET (Not in education, employment or training) unemployed
represented the largest non-learning destination for 5.2 per cent
of the cohort.
