Chief Executive Kevan Collins in TV's Undercover Boss
Channel 4 programme gives him a taste of what life is like for
front line council staff
Earlier this year Tower Hamlets’
Chief Executive Kevan Collins went undercover to discover what life
is like for our front line staff as part of Channel 4 documentary
Undercover Boss.
In the face of £50million savings over the next three years,
Kevan decided to find out exactly how services are delivered and if
there was a way we could work differently to provide the same
results.
Like all local authorities, Tower Hamlets is facing tough times
ahead. We are one of the three London boroughs most affected by
central government grant cuts, and Cabinet has already identified
savings of £7.6million this year.
Over the course of a week he worked alongside staff as a trainee
Pest Control Officer, Meals on Wheels provider, on the beat as an
Enforcement Officer, alongside the market inspectors and at the
reception of the Housing and Homelessness Service.
The staff had no idea they were training ‘the boss’ and told him
what it’s really like to work on the front line in the heart of
London’s East End.
