A Spitalfields community centre celebrated its
fifth anniversary by giving visitors a tour of its revamped
facilities.
Attlee Youth and Community Centre has been
operating from its site in Thrawl Street since 1982. Following a
major fundraising campaign which secured more than £3 million, a
new centre and refurbished adventure playground and sports pitches
were unveiled in 2006.
More than 1,000 young people use the centre
facilities, activities and programmes for their personal
development. And more recently, the centre has introduced a youth
leadership programme, workshops and advice for young people who are
not in education or employment.
The wider community also benefits from open
days, sports, keep fit and IT classes. The fifth anniversary party
on March 3 included refreshments, tours and a performance by young
people.
