Headline acts confirmed for the mela
Headline acts for the largest celebration of the
Bengali New Year outside of Bangladesh have now been confirmed.
Tower Hamlets Council will be hosting this
year’s A Baishakhi Mela in Banglatown Brick Lane on Sunday, May
8, at Weavers Fields and Brick Lane.
Organised by the Council in close
collaboration with community groups, the event attracts an audience
of more than 100,000 from all over the country.
Revellers will have the chance to listen to
the best of Bengali inspired traditional and contemporary music and
dance.
The main stage will host a mix of
international and UK- based artists hosted by MCs Ronnie Mirza and
Mahbub Hussain from BBC Asian Network.
Headline acts include Baby Naznin, folk
singers Birohi Kala Miah, Baul Anu Sharker, Mriganka Goswami and
Shahana Akter.
UK based artist Mumzy Stranger, Junai Kaden
and SH8T will perform alongside local artists including popular
folk singers Hashi Rani Sunayan Choudhury and Rowshanara Moni.
Satellite broadcaster, Channel S will present
a special show, featuring the best talent from the UK in their
Superstar Search.
