Residents trip the light fantastic
The rain didn’t dampen spirits at Tower Hamlets
Council’s annual tea dance in Victoria Park.
Back by popular demand the over 50s tea dance on July 11,
attracted more than 100 residents with tunes from a bygone era
filling the park.
Dancers brought along their favourite records to be played and
shared old photographs and memories of growing up in the
borough.
The park rangers also joined in the fun trying out the foxtrot,
quickstep, cha cha and jive.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman said: “The Victoria Park
tea dance is a great tradition and I know older residents look
forward to it each year. The council prides itself on hosting a
diverse programme of events for all ages.”
Cllr Rania Khan, lead member for Culture added: “Tea dances are
a great way for residents to get together and socialise.”
Betty Houghton, who came along to the event said: “It was a
brilliant day.”
