School litter shows are top of the class
Pupils in Tower Hamlets have been learning that
littering is a bad habit through a series of shows performed in the
borough’s primary schools.
The ‘Lost in Litter’ show is being delivered as part of Tower
Hamlets Council and Veolia’s focus on litter. The show sees
Sherbert Holmes, a magical detective, entertaining children with
his magic, circus tricks and music whilst giving the message that
they should take their litter home with them or put it in a nearby
bin. The teachers had a good laugh too. The children also
learnt why they wouldn’t want litter in their street, their park or
their neighbourhood, as well as the dangers of litter.
Cllr Shahed Ali, cabinet member for the Environment, said: “The
Lost in Litter show is a great initiative for getting the
anti-littering message across to our younger generation.
Cleanliness is one of our key priorities. We live in a great
borough and it is simply unacceptable to have it blighted by
litter. It’s wonderful to see the children captivated by Sherbert
Holmes and his mission to reduce littering.”
Kate Gooding, Head at Virginia Primary School, said: “The show
was absolutely fantastic - the children loved Sherbert and it was
very visual and very funny. They all got the message and I just
loved watching their faces - pure joy! I would definitely book him
again.”
Angelina John, Deputy Head at St Edmund’s Catholic School, said:
“The performance was excellent. The children thoroughly enjoyed it,
as did the teachers. It was very informative and entertaining.”
The show will be performed for a second week in January. Schools
who are interested in receiving a performance should contact Rachel
Telling on Rachel.Telling@veolia.co.uk.
