Short-term lets during the Olympic and Paralympic
Games
The Council's Planning Service are being
approached by a number of residents who are querying whether
planning permission is required to let their properties out during
the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The issue is whether there will be a material change of use
where a resident seeks to let out their property as a "one-off"
during this period. It is considered that in such
instances the main use of the property as dwelling house will
remain unchanged. After the closing of the Games, should the owner
continue to let the property over a period of time to a number of
different tenants, it could be considered that the use of
the property will have materially changed.
In such instances and where it is expedient to do so, the
council will pursue planning enforcement action. In line with
Government guidance and as is with all enforcement issues, each
case will be considered on its individual merits before any action
is taken.
For more information, please contact the council's duty planning
officer service on 0207 364 5009, or visit Anchorage
House, 2 Clove Crescent, London, E14 2BE. The service is free and
open between 9am and 5pm Monday - Friday.
