Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Tower Hamlets, Will Tuckley, said: “Following the resignation of former councillor Harun last week, I received a request to hold a by-election for Lansbury ward. This will take place on Thursday 7 February 2019.

“The council’s elections team is very experienced and I know they will do everything necessary to ensure this by-election runs smoothly.

“We have robust processes in place to ensure our residents are free to cast their votes safely and securely and we work closely with the police and other partners to make sure candidates campaign in the spirit of free and fair democracy.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who is not already registered to vote, to do so now – it is a quick and easy process that allows you to have your say in the future of your ward and the wider borough.”
