A week of 'fangtastic' fun for Half Term

Youngsters can join in creepy crafts, pumpkin carving, wild art and much more

Drawing, storytelling, window box dressing, mountain biking, soup making and a HALLOweek of creepy fun are some of the free ‘fangtastic’ events the council is hosting for children and families from 21-28 October this half term.

The October half term programme follows a highly successful summer of fun, which saw up to 20,000 people including children, and families take part in council run sports and physical activities and events across the borough.

Idea Stores, libraries, parks and leisure centres are gearing up for a fun filled week to keep youngsters of all ages active and entertained this Autumn.

HALLOweek is a week of events in the lead up to Halloween and youngsters can join in creepy crafts, pumpkin carving, wild art and much more.

Mayor of Tower Hamlets John Biggs said: “Our popular half term and Halloween events are back and promise to be as awesome as ever. We are staging a spectacular variety of events to ensure families can keep active and entertained during the school holidays.”

Cllr Amina Ali Cabinet Member, for Culture, Arts and Brexit said: “This half term, we have a variety of indoor and outdoor fun activities for families and young people in the borough. There’s plenty for people of all ages to choose from.”

Highlights include:

Tower Hamlets Sports Development, in partnership with the Urban Adventure Base and Access Sports, will be running a programme of free taster sessions for ages 5+ this Autumn Half Term.

Sessions including BMX track, mountain biking, archery and women and girls cycling will run from The Urban Adventure Base, 150 Burdett Road, Mile End Park E3 4JT and need to be pre-booked.

BMX Track Sessions

One-hour sessions at Mile End BMX Track. All sessions are for confident cyclists only. Bikes and safety equipment provided.

Session 1 Ages 5 – 7 11am – 12noon

Session 2 Ages 8 – 10 12.45pm – 1.45pm

Session 3 Ages 11+ 2.15pm – 3.15pm

Beginners Cycling Taster Sessions

Learn how to cycle in Mile End Park. Bikes and safety equipment provided.

Archery & Caving Taster Sessions

Practice your skills aiming for the target or caving in the tunnels.

Using foraged natural materials (such as leaves, twigs, bark and seeds) you, your family, your friends, your neighbours, or your group organisation can come and create your own piece of wild art.
