Giveaway! Exciting chance for Tower Hamlets residents to score tickets to 'edge of your seat' sporting action in east London

Tower Hamlets giveaway

Tower Hamlets Council is giving away a handful of tickets to two of the most fast-paced, action-packed events on the sporting calendar – both of which are happening this weekend in east London.

The Copper Box Arena will host back to back afternoons of netball and basketball on 13-14 October, and thanks to the council’s partners at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, some lucky local residents will be able to go along for free.

People who live in Tower Hamlets can enter a random draw to win one of 10 pairs of tickets to either the Fast5 Netball or the Basketball All Stars (five pairs up for grabs for each event). Both championship events see the traditional rules of each sport thrown out the window in favour of rugby-sevens style alterations, promising fast, intense and action-filled matches.

British Fast5 Netball All Stars Championships, 13 October 2018, 1:00 PM

‘Fast5’ has been dubbed the world’s most exciting form of the game, and it’s not your ordinary netball: matches are only 12 minutes long; there’s a five-point line to reward players who brave a shot from a distance; and a golden buzzer offers teams double points during their two-minute ‘Power Play’.

British Basketball All Stars Championships, 14 October 2018, 1:00 PM

Basketball with a twist: matches are also only 12 minutes long; a five-point line encourages players to make a shot from distance; and teams also have a two-minute golden buzzer ‘Power Play’. This tournament is in its second year and is set to once again showcase the best of British basketball talent.

Tower Hamlets Mayor John Biggs said: “We’re really pleased to be able to give a handful of people from our borough the opportunity to see some incredibly talented athletes play their sport in person, in a format that promises a lot of excitement.

“Fitness, health and living active lifestyles are things we encourage and support across Tower Hamlets, particularly for children and young people. We’re fortunate to have such great sporting events happening right on our doorstep – and I’m sure those lucky enough to attend will feel inspired by the skill and sportsmanship on show.”

The competition closes at 9am Friday 12 October. Winners will be selected at random and notified by phone on Friday 12 October. Tickets will be available for collection on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning from Idea Store Whitechapel, at 321 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1BU.

Both events will be held at the Copper Box Arena, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London E20 3HB.
