Residents and visitors who fancy a stroll on Christmas Eve, a brisk, after lunch walk on Christmas Day or some quiet nature spotting on Boxing Day, can do all of the above and more this festive season as the council will be opening all of its parks throughout the holidays including Christmas Day.

Many of the borough’s parks and open spaces are open all year round.  This year, after listening to residents, many who have said they like to go for a walk in a local park on Christmas Day – the council has decided to keep all parks open on Christmas Day.

Judith St John, Divisional Director for Sports, Leisure and Culture said: “Our borough has over 120 parks and green spaces which are great for recreation, sports, play and relaxation and are treasured by our local community and visitors alike.

From small open spaces, to local parks or parks of national repute, such as the fabulous Mile End Park and the majestic Victoria Park, visitors can enjoy them all, including on Christmas Day.”

Twelve of the borough’s parks and green spaces now have Green Flag status, more than Tower Hamlets has ever had.

Judith added: “Go for a wander to explore our local parks and see some of the beautiful gifts of nature on our doorsteps this winter.”
