Thumbs up for holiday childcare scheme

A Tower Hamlets Council holiday childcare scheme has received the top rating from Ofsted following an inspection last month.

Ofsted rated the holiday childcare scheme at St Matthias Primary School in Bethnal Green as ‘MET’, the highest grade available, citing the enthusiasm of the children to attend the scheme and the way that it works in partnership with local schools and parents.

This is the second positive Ofsted rating of a holiday childcare scheme this year after the scheme at St Mary and St Michael Catholic Primary School in Bethnal Green received a grading of good in August.

Ofsted has recently updated its inspection framework and grading criteria from September 2019 and St Matthias was the first holiday club in Tower Hamlets to be inspected through the new framework.

Jill McGinley, Head of Tower Hamlets Parent Family and Support Service, said: “I am incredibly proud of the holiday childcare scheme and the high quality of our inclusive provision for children 3 -13 years old. The scheme continues to develop provision to ensure children and families are supported with innovative ideas such as a partnership with the youth service and on site food bank. Children and families provide very positive feedback about their experience of the scheme and it is fabulous to see that Ofsted also recognises the excellent provision provided for Tower Hamlets children and families.”

Lance Lathino, Holiday Childcare Team Manager, said: “We would like to thank all of our parents and carers for their continued support and feedback, which allows us to continuously improve and meet the needs of their children. Our staff do an amazing job and without them we would not be able to provide such a high quality service. A huge well done and thanks to everyone who has supported us.”
