Two by-elections will take place on Thursday 7 February 2019 to elect new councillors for the Shadwell and Lansbury wards.
The announcement follows the resignation of former councillors Ruhul Amin and Muhammad Harun.
Prospective candidates in both wards now have until 4pm on 11 January 2019 to submit their nomination papers with a list of validly nominated candidates to be announced no later than 4pm Monday 14 January 2019.
Polling cards will be sent out to all registered electors but residents who are not already registered to vote are encouraged to ensure that they are registered so that they can have their say in the contest. The deadline to register is Tuesday 22 January 2019.

Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Tower Hamlets, Will Tuckley, said: “Following the resignation of former councillor Amin, a by-election will take place in Shadwell ward on Thursday 7 February 2019.
“We have been able to arrange for both the Shadwell and Lansbury by-elections to take place on the same day. The council’s elections team is already hard at work putting the necessary preparations in place to ensure both by-elections run smoothly.
“We have robust processes in place to ensure our residents are free to cast their votes safely and securely and we work closely with the police and other partners to make sure candidates in both contests campaign in the spirit of free and fair democracy.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who is not already registered to vote, to do so now – it is a quick and easy process that allows you to have your say in the future of your ward and the wider borough.”
