Tower Hamlets Council has received a petition from residents asking for the creation of a new parish council (or ‘local council’) in the Spitalfields and Banglatown area.
The council is carrying out a community governance review to establish whether or not a parish council should be established.
The review includes two consultation phases. The first phase ran from 8 October 2018 and closed on 31 December 2018. This asked people what they thought about the proposals made by the petitioners.
Draft recommendations were developed by the council based on the first phase of the consultation.
A second stage of consultation is running from 6 March to 28 May 2019. This will give residents in Spitalfields and Banglatown the chance to feedback on the draft recommendations.
The council will make a decision and publish its final recommendations in July 2019.
