Tower Hamlets residents who are European Union citizens, and not from the UK, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus and Malta, and wish to vote in the forthcoming European Parliamentary Elections on Thursday 23 May 2019 in the UK must have an entry on the electoral register and in addition applied to exercise their vote in this country.

Application forms have been posted to every registered EU citizen listed on the electoral register in Tower Hamlets which must be returned to the Electoral Registration Officer by Tuesday 7 May 2019.  In addition, 18,731 emails have been sent to EU citizens as detailed above via the government's Notify system.

Due to the short European elections timetable those residents affected are strongly advised to return their applications straight away.

Will Tuckley, Returning Officer for Tower Hamlets said:

"Given the relatively short notice involved in this election, it's really important that residents ensure that they are registered and able to vote by the deadlines in place.  The process for EU citizens does require the additional application form to be completed and returned no later than 7 May, so I would urge those who are EU citizens and not from the UK, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus and Malta who wish to vote in the UK to carefully read and send back their completed forms by the deadline."

Other Tower Hamlets residents, who are not already on the electoral register, must also apply to vote by 7 May. The quickest and easiest way to apply to register to vote is to go online at www.gov.uk/registertovote

Voters who wish to apply for either a postal or proxy vote will need to make an application to be returned to the Electoral Registration Officer no later than the following deadlines:

Apply for a postal vote - 5pm Wednesday 8 May 2019

Apply for a proxy vote - 5pm Wednesday 15 May 2019
