Council vaccine bus supports NHS vaccine efforts in Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets Council has deployed its Covid-19 vaccination bus to the Royal London Hospital this week to help increase vaccination among NHS staff.

The deployment of the bus, each morning from 6am to 9am supports ongoing work to reach those who live, work, and visit the borough, with each jab helping to keep Tower Hamlets safe.

The bus, which vaccinates on the spot offers first, second and booster doses. Bus staff can engage with members of the community, provide information, reassurance and importantly, protection against Covid-19 through vaccination. It works alongside community outreach and grassroots organisations which also work to support people to take up the offer of vaccination.

Over 207,000 residents in Tower Hamlets have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and over 125,000 have had their vital booster dose.

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: “We’re continuing to work hard with health partners to make getting jabbed as easy as possible, and educate all those who live and work in the borough about the importance of protecting themselves and others through vaccination.

“Frontline workers are critical as we continue to live with Covid-19 and its effects. We want to ensure that our vaccine resources are easily available to these vital staff who continue to play a role in keeping us all safe.”

Outside of the bus’s deployment to Royal London Hospital, it continues to visit locations around the borough where vaccination rates are low. Details of the vaccine bus locations can be found on the council website, alongside all other clinics offering jabs in Tower Hamlets: www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/vaccine.

Councillor Rachel Blake, Lead Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, said: “Alongside our bus we have more clinics than ever across Tower Hamlets offering vaccination.

“Please come forward and take up the offer of vaccination, whether your first, second or booster. We all must continue to play our part in protecting each other and keeping Tower Hamlets safe. You can also join up to become a Covid Champion to support the community to stay safe.”
