National Secondary Offer Day 2022 – Over 91 per cent get a preferred school place

91.4 per cent of families in Tower Hamlets, with children due to start secondary school in September, have today been offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

69.5 per cent secured a place at their first preference school, a percentage point increase on last year, and 88.2% secured a place at one of their top three preferences.

All Tower Hamlets children starting secondary school in September have received an offer of a school place on National Offer Day.

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets received 3172 secondary school applications this year, compared with 3185 in the previous year.

Across London, there were 92,672 secondary school applications made, a small decrease of 1.1 per cent compared to last year - according to figures from the Pan London Admissions Board, the body with overall responsibility for coordinating school admissions in the Capital.

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets, said: “I am delighted that so many families have received a place at one of their preferred schools. Tower Hamlets schools work very hard to provide some of the best education in the country, ensuring our children and young people receive the high-quality education they deserve.”

Councillor Asma Begum, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Children, Youth Services and Education said: “I’m really pleased that all Tower Hamlets children starting secondary school this September have been offered a place, giving them access to good teaching and learning in the borough. We have a great family of schools across the borough and we work together very closely to ensure our children and young people get a good education.”
