No elections in Tower Hamlets on Thursday 4 May 2023

Widespread national media coverage on local elections is expected this coming week, as new Voter ID rules come into effect.

However, as with the rest of London, Tower Hamlets will not be holding any council elections because they are held every four years, with the next council polls scheduled for May 2026.

The next scheduled polls, other than the Tower Hamlets council elections, will be the Mayor of London and London Assembly elections (GLA) on Thursday 2 May 2024, while Parliamentary rules state that the next General Election must be held no later than 25 January 2025.

From Thursday 4 May 2023 the new Voter ID rules will apply at all polls except for a General Election where the new requirements will take place from 1 October 2023 onwards.
