A permanent face to face advice service to support residents who cannot access council services online, will be based at the new Town Hall in Whitechapel from Monday 27 February.
Tower Hamlets Council in partnership with voluntary and community groups have been trialling Residents’ Hubs at the former Town Hall at Mulberry Place and Idea Store Whitechapel since March 2022.
The current Residents’ Hubs at Mulberry Place and Idea Store Whitechapel will close their doors on Friday 24 February at 5pm. Residents will not be able to access any support services at Mulberry Place after 5pm on 24 February.
The Residents’ Hub is a new way to access help and support for our most vulnerable residents on a range of topics (council tax, employment and skills, debt management, housing, welfare benefits, domestic abuse, health and wellbeing) - to help them navigate their way through issues they may be facing.
Since the trial the council has helped more than 8,000 residents and made over 4,000 referrals to partner agencies.
External organisations which have signed up to work with the Residents’ Hub include; Citizens Advice, DWP, Island Advice, Age UK, Limehouse Project, Tower Hamlets Homes, Debt Free London, Age UK and Tower Hamlets Law Centre. We are in discussion with other partners who we will be bringing onboard soon.
The council’s Tackling Poverty Team, WorkPath and Housing Options will also be based at the Residents’ Hub.
Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman said:
“I am pleased to announce we will be having a permanent Residents’ Hub based at the new Town Hall and we plan to roll out further hubs across the borough.
“The concept of the Residents’ Hub is to help those who cannot access services online and to deal with complex issues by having one single point of contact to access a range of services.”
The Residents’ Hub offers an appointment only service and operates Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00am till 4.30pm and Wednesday from 10.00am till 4.30pm. Emergency assistance 9am – 5pm, Monday-Friday is available to homeless residents.
