Thanks for making National Numeracy Day a big success

A huge thank you to all staff and residents who participated in our activities this week to support National Numeracy Day.

The week has been a great success with more than 240 entries to our guess the number of sweets competition.

At our event on Wednesday 17May at Idea Store Whitechapel, residents engaged in a wide range of activities including making draft excluders to save money, planting seeds to grow vegetables and making their own jewellery.

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Talukdar, closed the event and announced our two lucky competition winners.

The two winners were Salema Begum, an ESOL learner at Lawdale Primary School and Sameema Akhtar, an ESOL learner at John Smiths Children’s Centre.

Both winners will be presented with the jar of sweets and a £20 Amazon voucher during their classes.

Thank you to everybody who entered the competition, spoke to us about maths and supported National Numeracy Day.

The number of sweets in the red jar were: 401

The number of sweets in the blue jar were: 484
