History begins at home, and as a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, acclaimed artist Rahemur Rahman is working collaboratively with a group of artists as well as young people from Tower Hamlets to evoke such a living space. This installation will be a multi-sensory depiction of the textures, décor and aromas of those homes to trigger memories and associations of that era.

The intriguing installation work will be on display in the heart of Banglatown as the culmination of a nine-month period of research and development which makes up the wider participatory project. This creative engagement is an innovative way to explore the UK Bangladeshi community’s contribution to Bangladesh’s freedom & independence and has harnessed artistic voices through a cultural & heritage exchange with young people, old people, local businesses and the community.
