Demonstrations on and around Brick Lane have for a long time marked this neighbourhood as a hub for assembly and protest, which was catalysed by the senseless murder of the young textile worker, Altab Ali, in 1978.
As part of a series of events to mark Altab Ali Day 2022, Tower Hamlets Council co-host a talk from Stand Up to Racism.
A panel of guest speakers will discuss the implications of the new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill. This bill will lead to increased powers for police to impose restrictions on peaceful procession, assembly, and protest. Refreshments from 7.30pm, talk until 9.30pm. (KNC, 4 May – venue, dates and times will be in web calendar).
