Voting in Tower Hamlets

Residents are being asked to look out for their household enquiry form (HEF) which is being posted to every property in the borough. It is a legal requirement to respond to this document to ensure that everyone who is entitled to vote is on the revised Register of Electors when it is published on 1 December 2019.

The HEF is quick and easy to complete. Residents just need to check the details on the form, and make any changes if needed. Then return the form by post or make the changes online. If there are no changes to be made, residents still need to respond and can do this conveniently by post, online, text or telephone.

Anyone who registered for recent elections, including the European Parliamentary Elections in May, will still need to respond. By either confirming the details are correct or making any amends.

Tower Hamlets Electoral Registration Officer, Will Tuckley said:

“Using our democratic right to vote is one of the most important powers and privileges that we all have as adult citizens. In Tower Hamlets we have one of the fastest growing populations in the country, with many new residents setting up home in the borough every day. It’s vital that everyone who has the right to vote is on the Register, so that at election time their vote will count.”

As well as being a legal requirement, inclusion on the register is important because credit agencies check the names and addresses of people applying for credit cards, mobile phones and mortgages. It can also be used to carry out identity checks and helps to tackle serious crimes such as fraud and money laundering.
