Spotlight on the next generation of coders

Coding club students

Students from Tower Hamlets schools got the chance to further develop their digital making skills this past Spring through a council initiative between the Spotlight Centre, Enterprise Team, local schools and Mile End based non-profit coding bootcamp outfit Founders and Coders.

As part of a series of Tower Hamlets Coding Clubs these sessions ran over 3 weeks for pupils from Wapping High and Morpeth School benefiting from expert coaching from Founders and Coders own mentors, learning tricks of the trade in website development to create their own in HTML & CSS, understand how to use the GitHub control system and discover a whole array of free online tools to continue their coding journey at school, home or even as a career.

And from Enego, 13 added "It was good to learn more about JavaScript and I liked working with software developers so that could I experience what it would be like to have a job in computing."

Youness, 13 said "I really enjoyed it and got so much out of it. I wish that there were more events like this".

The collaboration between schools, community organisations and tech businesses is part of the Councils work to raise awareness of opportunities for local people in the burgeoning tech sector in East London and further afield.
