Fire at Ramsey Street, Bethnal Green

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire on a balcony at a block of maisonettes in Ramsey Street, Bethnal Green.

A split level maisonette on the fifth and sixth floor was damaged by the fire. Two men were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and one of the men was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took more than 40 calls to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 2.22pm and the fire was under control at 3.37pm. Fire crews from Whitechapel, Dowgate, Islington and Kentish Town fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
