Register a birth

Congratulations on your new arrival

The first weeks after the arrival of a newborn are precious, exhausting and overwhelming. That’s why we aim to make the process of registering your baby, as simple as possible.

Step one: know the essentials

If your baby was born anywhere in Tower Hamlets, you must register them at Bromley Public Hall within 42 days of their arrival.

Step two: make sure you have the right information

Getting the correct paperwork and knowing who can register the birth is essential. Please check the government guidelines thoroughly before booking an appointment.

Step three: be aware of the costs

There is no fee for registering a birth. However, there is a fee of £11 per certificate. You'll get these during your appointment and we recommend getting 3-5 copies, as they are often required for legal process such as passport applications.

Any copies ordered after the initial appointment will be more expensive.

Please note that we can only accept card payments.

Step four: make your appointment

If you've read all of the guidelines, you’re now ready to make an appointment to come and see us at Bromley Public Hall, Bow Road, London E3 3AA.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accept walk ins, so don’t forget to make an appointment. You can check our opening hours here.
