Please note that Tower Hamlets Registration and Citizenship Service now operates an appointment only system. Please telephone our offices on 020 7364 7880 in order to make an appointment.

You do not need an appointment to obtain a duplicate birth, marriage, death or civil partnership certificate. Please telephone our archive department on 020 7364 7884 with any duplicate certificate enquiries.

Due to staff training, the Register Office will be closed on Wednesday 12 July 2017 from 11.30am until 4.30pm. Normal service will resume on Thursday 13 July 2017.

Please also be aware that we operate a cashless office and accept card payments only.  Please note that we are unable to accept American Express/Diners Club and apologise for any inconvenience caused.


Births, marriages and deaths


Get a copy of a birth, marriage or death certificate.


If your baby was born in Tower Hamlets, you must register the birth at the Register Office. You can also make corrections to birth certificates, arrange baby naming ceremonies and request historical searches.

Marriages and civil partnerships

Tower Hamlets Council can help arrange marriages and civil partnerships, renewal of wedding vows; advising on legal requirements, issuing certificates and help with performing historical searches.

Deaths, funerals, burials and cremations

We offer support in dealing with the practical and emotional issues of death and bereavement.

The nearest Underground station is Bow Road on the District Line or Hammersmith and City Line. Alternatively go to Bow Church on the Docklands Light Railway. When you come out of either station, turn to your right and continue walking down Bow Road.
